Mail Order Protection Scheme

Each year millions of purchases are made without buyer and seller coming into direct contact. Many of these distance selling transactions are initiated by magazine advertisements containing direct response coupons - so called 'off-the-page' advertising.

PPA members are required to operate the Mail Order Protection Scheme (MOPS) aimed at safeguarding readers who respond to off-the-page advertisements. All the documents required by publishers to carry out the MOPS are listed below. PPA members can request the documents by clicking here.

  • Guidelines for advertisers
  • Application to advertise by mail order
  • Advertiser's bond
  • Agency certificate
  • Personal undertaking
  • Bank guarantee
  • Publisher's guarantee
  • A reader's guide to magazine mail order
  • Stakeholder agreement
  • Letter of intent
  • Deed of assignment of debt
