Monthlies give weeklies a run for their money in ABC’s
15 Feb 2008 Overall total annualised circulation is up 134 million copies or 8.6 per cent year on year. While total annual actively purchased sales are slightly down by 1.1 per cent, annual consumer expenditure has remained relatively flat at £1.98bn. Monthlies have performed impressively over the last year, with sales up 0.5 per cent, and consumer expenditure up by £2.1m.

Guildford and Godalming become magazine laboratory
21 Sep 2007 Guildford and Godalming have been selected as a magazine ‘laboratory’ in a unique experiment to examine magazine buying and reading habits in the UK as part of PPA’s industry initiative, Magazine Week. The two areas will become jointly known as ‘Magazine Town’. Rodborough Technology College in Godalming has been selected as the UK’s first ‘Magazine School.’

Consumer magazine market grows by 51m copies according to ABCs
17 Aug 2006 ABC figures released today reveal that the total volume of consumer magazines circulated over the past 12 months increased by an impressive 51m copies or 3.5 per cent. The number of copies actively purchased in the last 12 months increased by 12.3m copies or one per cent as the weeklies market continues to show impressive results.
MPs updated on magazine display guidelines
30 Jun 2006 PPA is writing to MPs who signed an Early Day Motion (EDM) on the display of offensive materials, to remind them about recent Home Office sanctioned guidelines on displaying ‘lads mags.’ The move comes following the 10 minute rule bill laid down today by Labour MP Claire Curtis-Thomas, who has called for legally binding measures to ensure that magazines containing sexually-explicit material are kept out of sight of children.
Government should engage public on internet copyright threat

14 Feb 2006 Magazine publishers need to take action to avoid sleepwalking into higher postal charges for magazine delivery, according to Keith Jones, chairman of PPA's Postal strategy group. The chief executive of Reed Business Information was speaking about a Parliamentary Early Day Motion, urging the Government to pressure postal regulator Postcomm to look again at its controversial recommendation to remove the second class magazine delivery service, Presstream 2 from price control.
Privacy advice made public for publishers

Concerned magazine publishers lobby MPs over postal regulator folly
20 Jan 2006 MPs, the length and breadth of the country, are being petitioned by concerned magazine publishers, in an effort to avert a “gross injustice” caused by controversial proposals from postal regulator, Postcomm. The regulator has recommended that all regulatory protection should be removed from the second class magazine delivery product Presstream 2, sparking a call from PPA chief executive Ian Locks for PPA members to take action in the hope that Postcomm can be persuaded to reverse its recommendation. PPA urged members to write to their MPs about the issue, to point out that that the competitive market for Presstream is not sufficiently developed to justify such a move. So far, member publishers have enthusiastically taken up the call, with dozens writing to their elected representatives.
