Scottish publishers lobby MSPs

The Scottish Parliament was the venue for the Briefing to MSPs on the Scottish Magazine Industry, chaired by PPA Scotland Chairman Fraser Allen of White Light Media.  PPA Scotland members were joined by industry colleagues from the Copyright Licensing Agency, Menzies Distribution, Publishing Scotland, Skillset Scotland and Stirling and Edinburgh Napier Universities to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the industry with MSPs and representatives from the Scottish Government.

The briefing and industry round-table discussion provided an excellent platform to highlight the achievements of the magazine industry in Scotland and its creative and commercial contribution to the Scottish economy over the last 270 years.  During the two-hour meeting, topics covered included public sector procurement issues, the challenge of retail distribution, legislation and SMEs, advertising spend within magazines, magazine trends online and future skills requirements. Limited Edition, a special one-off magazine was launched at the Briefing and will be used extensively at all PPA Scotland events and meetings over the next 12 months.  The magazine, designed and edited by White Light Media, carried articles contributed by PPA Scotland members, which formed the core of the presentations at the Briefing.  The magazine printing was sponsored by Pensord. Further meetings with Government Ministers are planned in order to take forward the key issues which were identified for further action.
