Presstream schedule amendments

The Presstream schedule will shortly be amended to reflect changes Royal Mail believes will allow its customers greater flexibility in their use of the service. Until the new schedule is printed below are the detailed changes.

  1. Supplements
Supplements which are heavier than the periodical can now be posted along with the periodical in question, provided it has been seen and agreed by the product team and meets the usual supplement terms and conditions.
  2. Catalogues, brochures, directories and exhibition guides
Many publishers are including catalogues, brochures, directories and exhibition guides, which weigh more than the periodical itself. After discussions with Royal Mail customers and account handlers it was found that these inserts were being distributed once or twice a year.

To meet customer needs Royal Mail is now allowing customers to include catalogues, brochures, directories and exhibition guides which weigh greater than the periodical. The following requirements must be met if you are to include catalogues, brochures, directories and exhibition guides:
    1. Royal Mail customers cannot include heavier inserts with every issue
The number of times that they are allowed will be dependent on the frequency of the individual title - see table below.
Number of issues per year Maximum number of times
      2 1
      4 2
      12 4
      26 7
      52 13
Note: There is no requirement for to evenly spread when sending out the heavier weight inserts as long as they do not exceed their frequency quota
    2. Catalogues, brochures, directories and exhibition guides must be included in the same wrapper as the periodical and can not be sent via Presstream if posted on their own
    3. The Royal Mail product team will be required to see a sample of the catalogues, brochures, directories and exhibition guides prior to posting.
  3. Cross publisher periodicals may now be included in a Presstream posting - for promotional purposes
For promotional purposes it is possible to include an additional periodical. The additional title can also be published by another publisher, however it will be expected to meet the standard Presstream entry criteria. It must also be enclosed in the same wrapper as the main periodical.

This type of promotional activity will generally be for a limited period and generally will be six issues for monthly titles and 12 issues for weekly titles.

The product team will need to see the additional title before its inclusion within an existing Presstream Posting.
