Welcome to the pages for magazine production & technology issues.

Who are the Production & Technology committee?

The Production & Technology committee is the PPA steering committee on issues of magazine production, including digital, print and paper. The committee exists to promote and provide information on relevant areas for magazine production personnel. It aims to develop and raise standards, educate and resolve problems in a collaborative and co-operative manner.

The Production & Technology committee is made up of production directors/managers, and its chairmen is Andrew Watley, group production director at Wilmington Media.

The Pass4press committee is a subgroup of the Production & Technology committee and is chaired by The Condé Nast Publications' Jonathan Moore. The PPA Pass4Press committee exists to develop the pass4press initiative and best practice for the digital transmission of material within the magazine production process. It also acts as a forum to allow publishing production personnel and supplier companies to collaborate to raise the standards, educate and resolve problems.

Committee achievements

The committee directs and advises on PPA's Magazine Production event - a one day conference and evening awards ceremony. A highly successful seminar, on the changing role of magazine production was held at Magazines & Business Media 2007 in May.

Training is a key area for the committee, with the development of the PPA certificate in Production Management.

The Pass4press committee launched version 8 of its best practice guidelines for the digital workflow in November 2007. Pic4press version 3 was lauched in May 2007.
