1854 Media launches Portrait of Humanity
1854 Media, the publisher of British Journal of Photography, together with Magnum Photos, is calling photographers from around the world to enter Portrait of Humanity.
Ellie Austin scored a job at Immediate Media as a Features Writer for Radio Times after graduating from the Magazine Journalism MA course at City University. Here she talks about working in the fast-paced world of a major weekly magazine and the power of a good coffee.
The Portrait of Humanity photography award is focused on capturing the many faces of humanity. Inspired by individuality, community and unity, it is an opportunity for photographers and individuals to celebrate our existence through the power of photography.
The aim is to gain an insight into the lives of people from across the globe, to capture laughter, courage, and sorrow, moments of reflection, journeys to work, first hellos, last goodbyes and everything that happens in between.
Entries are open to everyone and to all interpretations of portraiture. For example, self-portraits, group pictures and street photography.
- 200 longlisted images will be featured in the Portrait of Humanity book
- 50 shortlisted images will be exhibited at various locations around the world from September to December 2019
- Three finalists will share $10,000 in grant awards to create projects that explore their interpretations of humanity
