Categories & Criteria

Best Sales or Marketing Initiative of the Year 

This year we invite entries into the categories below:

  • Specialist interest magazines
  • Mass market consumer
  • Multiple titles (eg combined for a promotion)

The winner in each category will be the entrant that has shown flair and innovation in the execution of a specific sales or marketing initiative in the last 12 months which made a measurable contribution to sales. Entries are invited from publishers, retailers and distributors - who may have worked in collaboration on a joint marketing initiative. The Judges will be looking for:

• A creative and innovative approach
• A measurable contribution to sales based on meeting (or exceeding) specific objectives

 

Magazine Category Champion of the Year 


This prestigious prize will be awarded, at the judges’ discretion, to the individual who has demonstrated:

• A commitment to excellence in driving magazine sales during the past 12 months
• A complete consideration of the UK magazine supply chain including the impact on profitability of factors such as availability/efficiency and consumer shopping habits
• Actions above and beyond the call of duty to promote the magazine category within their company

 

*NEW* Magazine Category Colleague of the Year

This brand new category rewards commitment to the magazine category by store colleagues. The winner will be the colleague who has:

• Demonstrated an outstanding knowledge and understanding of the magazine category
• Enhanced the shopping experience for the magazine consumer (e.g. through store appearance, shelf layout, information, innovation, customer service, promotional compliance)
• Ensured a good choice of titles was on offer to customers by ensuring on shelf availability as well as utilising local titles and optional titles (where possible)
• Promoted the category both to colleagues and customers, working to grow sales

 

Multiple Magazine Retailer of the Year

This year we have removed the division of this category by number of stores, and will instead be looking to make Gold and Silver Awards within the overall category. The winners will the multiple retailers who have most successfully demonstrated:


• A dedication to the cause of selling more magazines
• A commitment to offering a good choice of titles to its customers
• Enhancing the shopping experience for the magazine consumer (e.g. through store appearance, shelf layout, information, innovation, customer service)

 

Independent Magazine Retailer of the Year  

The winner in this category will be the independent retailer who has most successfully demonstrated:

• A dedication to the cause of selling more magazines
• A commitment to offering a good choice of titles to its customers, including the development of Shop Save and/or Home News Delivery (HND) services
• Enhancing the shopping experience for the magazine consumer (e.g. through store appearance, shelf layout, information, innovation, customer service)
