Magazine Academy 2009 took place on Wednesday 21 October from 6.30pm until 9.00pm
Magazine Academy is a unique event, celebrating excellence and combining three elements: the PTC Chairman’s Reception, the Magazine Academy Awards Presentation, and the PPA Professional Qualifications Graduation Ceremony.

The Magazine Academy competition itself gives fledgling industry stars a chance to showcase their talent. Students from across the 14 postgraduate courses accredited by the Periodicals Training Council (PTC) submit either a new launch concept, accompanied by a mocked-up cover and detailed contents list, or a whole magazine, produced with as much finish as possible, having generated the editorial, photography, design and layout. Entries are judged by industry experts and showcased at the Magazine Academy event in October, where the winner in each category is announced. The winning 'New Student Magazine' is then printed by Polestar on UPM paper and distributed across the industry. Whether sparky and fun or delivering serious treatment to subjects in challenging markets, the initiative encourages students to innovate and develop commercial acumen, presenting great ideas.

The Magazine Academy event also incorporates the PPA Professional Qualifications Graduation Ceremony, where students that have successfully completed one of PPA’s own professional qualifications receive their Certificates, and a reception for senior industry figures, hosted by PTC Chairman, Nicholas Brett.

This year’s event was held at the E Rejuvenation Centre in London. Designed by a world leading Feng Shui expert and a cutting edge architect, the venue provides a chic series of spaces in which Magazine Academy 2009 took place. Attending the event were a mixture of students, graduates and industry professionals.

Magazine Academy is supported by overall training sponsor UPM and event sponsors Affixxius Productions, Dovetail, Informa and Polestar Group.
