For the purpose of this award, a specialist consumer magazine is one which by the title or description addresses a specific consumer leisure interest (including food, health, sport, hobbies, homes, interiors, and travel) or publishes within a specific sector such as children's magazines or partworks.
As for the Consumer Magazine of the Year award, the winning specialist magazine will demonstrate audience retention or growth, robust market share and competitive positioning, as well as sound commercial results. This will all be built on a foundation of outstanding editorial and design, together with a sure understanding of the needs of its audience. Although the judges will note how effectively a brand has been developed across other secondary platforms, the focus for this entry is on the magazine’s excellence in its core area, be that in print or on a digital platform.
While the judges will give consideration to the creativity and innovation of the magazine/website, the focus will be on the overall performance during 2013, such as circulation and readership figures and achievement within the magazine’s competitive set. Commercial performance during 2013 will also be key, with relevant financial and yield data and proven increase in market share all being taken into consideration.
Please note that a magazine may be entered in EITHER Consumer Magazine of the Year OR Specialist Consumer Magazine of the Year, but not both.
