Future partners Gawker to launch Gizmodo UK

GizmodoFuture Publishing has struck a deal with Gawker Media to launch a UK edition of the Gizmodo technology website.

Gizmodo UK is set for launch in autumn 2011 and will feature localised content while retaining the brand's "informed yet irreverent take on tech news and rumour".

It will be the ninth international version of the site following local editions in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Japan, Australia, and Brazil.

Gizmodo UK will be edited by Kat Hannaford, previously a contributing editor for Gizmodo US and prior to that, a news editor at www.T3.com.

Future said the addition of Gizmodo will extend the footprint of its current UK technology portfolio, which includes T3, TechRadar and MacFormat, to over four million monthly UK consumers.

Nial Ferguson, Group Publishing Director of Future’s Technology Division, said: "We are very excited about bringing Gizmodo to the UK.  It is a hugely influential brand and one that we are proud to have within our market-leading portfolio. Gizmodo UK allows us to speak to a completely new set of tech consumers and to offer our commercial partners even more exciting opportunities.”

Gaby Darbyshire, COO of Gawker Media, added: “Future is the perfect partner to run Gizmodo in the UK. They are experts in all things tech and understand the unique voice of Gizmodo. We are delighted that Kat, an old Gizmodo hand, will be running the site and look forward to working with the Future team.”

Future recently launched its 100th digital edition for the iPad with the introduction of Official Xbox Magazine and the publisher claims revenues on the Apple tablet have exceeded the £2m-a-year mark.

Mark Wood, CEO of Future UK, said the deal with Gawker to bring Gizmodo to the UK reaffirms the company's intention "to continue accelerating digital growth within our business".
