ABC proposals for auditing e-publications

ABC Council has agreed the inclusion of e-publications on ABC certificates for all sectors. It has also agreed to conduct further research into the usage of e-publications.

Ad alert published on low cost airline

The Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) has published an urgent ad Alert about a high profile low cost airline which continues to publish a misleading advertisements despite notification from CAP that the ad directly contravenes the CAP Code.

Clarification on Gambling Bill sought

PPA has responded to the Government's Draft Gambling Bill consultation in relation to how it will govern lotteries and prize competitions. PPA is seeking clarification that magazines can run legitimate ‘reader competitions’ without falling foul of the law. It is also imperative that magazines have a clear and fair framework that enables them to advertise competition schemes lawfully.

EU harmonisation required on public sector documents

Parliamentary questions answered on NHS online recruitment project

In response to parliamentary questions tabled by Austin Mitchell MP for PPA, the Government has stated that the NHS Careers jobs board pilot - www.nhs.uk/jobs - launched on 1 December, will cost £6m over a five-year contract, with savings in advertising costs for the Government estimated to be around £24m a year, once national rollout has been achieved. This estimate is based on a 75 per cent take-up over three years.
