Hearst UK pledges to replace plastic magazine bags with sustainably sourced paper wraps by New Year

Hearst UK, publisher of brands including Esquire, ELLE, Harper’s Bazaar and Cosmopolitan, this week announced a commitment to move entirely to sustainably sourced paper wraps on subscriber copies by January 2020.

This is part of Hearst UK’s commitment to champion its international gold standard of environmental business management (ISO 14001 certification) which it was awarded last year.

The company announced it is reviewing all its environmental business practices, including staff education and travel, following the move to a new and more efficient head office in Leicester Square last year which uses 100% renewable electricity and contributes zero waste to landfill.

James Wildman, CEO of Hearst UK, says: “Here at Hearst UK, we take our environmental and social responsibilities very seriously. We are committed to making positive changes that help create a more sustainable future for our employees, commercial partners and customers alike. I am proud of our pledge to replace plastic magazine bags with sustainably sourced paper wraps on Hearst UK’s subscriber copies by January 2020. This is an important step as we continue to prioritise our position as one of the most sustainable media companies in the UK.”
