Mike Mirams appointed Chief Executive of NewstrAid
Following the announcement of Alex van Straubenzee’s retirement from his position as Chief Executive Officer of NewstrAid, Mike Mirams has been appointed to the role, taking effect from November 1, 2018.
Ellie Austin scored a job at Immediate Media as a Features Writer for Radio Times after graduating from the Magazine Journalism MA course at City University. Here she talks about working in the fast-paced world of a major weekly magazine and the power of a good coffee.
Mirams had a long career at magazine distributor COMAG, including 11 years as Managing Director. Over his time in the industry, he has also worked closely with the PPA, serving as Chairman of its Newstrade Committee, and is still a Trustee of the Association of Circulation Executives. Mirams joined the Trustee Board of NewstrAid in April 2004 and was Chairman for six years from April 2012.
Chair of Trustees Neil Jagger commented: “On behalf of the staff, Trustees and beneficiaries of NewstrAid, I would like to put on record our sincere thanks for the splendid job that Alex has done as CEO over the last 13 years. All of our good wishes go with him.
“Following a thorough recruitment process, I am delighted that Mike has agreed to become CEO. His industry experience and deep knowledge of NewstrAid made him the ideal choice and I look forward to working closely with him.”
Mike Mirams added: “I’m honoured to be taking over from Alex and very much look forward to working with the businesses and army of volunteers who enable us to help the many people from our industry who now have need of our support.”
