A sustainable & inclusive future

The PPA Progress work stream has been set up to focus on ED&I, our commitment to net zero, and challenges around attracting and retaining talent. It also involves the active championing and promotion of our industry to government and customers.

Sustainability

The climate emergency has seen sustainability rise up the agenda of government, consumers and business alike. There is an increasing and pressing need for the PPA and its members adopt a proactive, leadership role, and set the agenda for sustainability in the publishing sector in the UK.

The PPA Sustainability Action Group meets quarterly to discuss the pressing issues of the day and members of this group are engaged in actively working towards targets signed in our Responsibility Deal with the government.

The work spans a number of areas from ensuring events are run in a sustainable way to offering magazine wrapping guidelines, to a range of resources and whitepapers to help members deal with environmental issues and policy.

Current work involves the development of an industry pledge as well as scoping the build for an industry calculator, allowing members of all sizes to track their progress.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

The PPA regularly commissions an industry-wide diversity and inclusion survey to help benchmark progress in the sector. The results of the survey inform the road map for the PPA ED&I Working Group, which aims to champion diversity initiatives and promote best-practice amongst all member businesses.

Talent has been a key discussion point, as an industry that now boasts careers across a range of disciplines from editorial to sales, digital marketing to data analysis, social media to events. At the PPA’s 30under30 event, our next gen community helped to shape a marketing brief focussed on how we present our industry externally, an initiative that will aim to attract talent and skills into the sector.
